Malta Airport Bus

Malta international Airport (MLA) is the only airport serving the Maltese Islands. Concretely, the airport is located in the island of Malta, between Luqa and Gudja, about 8 km away from the capital La Valletta city centre. A bus ride from Malta Airport to Velleta city centre may take around 25 minutes, but it always depends on the traffic and on the exact destination.

Reaching the airport in Malta by bus is very straightforward thanks to four express lines designated X1, X2, X3 and X4. Buses departing from Malta Airport are equiped with air-conditioning and they have space for luggage.

Bus lines

Bus line X1

This line is going from the Airport “Ajruport” to Cirkewwa stopping to: Hal Luqa (Airport), San Vincenz, Il-Marsa, L-Imsida, Mater Dei, L-Imsida, Is-Swieqi, Pembroke, Bahar ic-Cafgaq, Il-Qawra, San Pawl il-Bahar, Ix-Xemxija, Il-Mellieha, Il-Marfa and Ic-Cirkewwa. It operates from 5:08h in the morning until 22:50h at night.

Bus line X2

This bus line is going from the Airport “Ajruport” to San Giljan stopping to: Hal Luqa, Airport 2, Avjazzjoni, mitjar, Ewropa, Santa Lucija, Pepprin, Paola, Nazzarenu, Pjazza, Paola 2, Lourdes, Il-Marsa, Marsa Park & Ride 1, Is-Swatar, Qroqq 5, L-Imsida, Universita 1, Mater Dei, Mater Dei 2, Sptar 1, Sptar 2, L-Imsida,Qroqq 3, San Giljan. The bus operates from 6:00h until 23:00h.

Bus line X3

This line goes from Ajruport to Bugibba with the following stops: Hal Luqa (Airport), Santa Lucija, Paola, Il-Marsa, Santa Venera, Birkirkara, Hal Balzan, H’Attard, Ta’Qali, Ir-Rabat Malta, L-Imtarda, Il-Mosta, Burmarrad and Bugibba, from 5:30h until 22:30h.

Bus line X4

This bus goes from Valletta to Birzebbugia stopping to the Airport in its route: Il-Belt Velletta, Il-Floriana, Il-Hamrun, Il-Marsa, San Vincenz/Luqa, Hal Farrug, Hal Luqa (Airport), Il-Gudja, Hal Far and Birzebbuga from 5:25h until 22:35h.

Night Buses

Bus line N10

This night bus line is going from the South Night to San Giljan and to Zurrieq, stopping through the Airport, from Monday to Sunday. It operates from 00:15h to 3:15h.


There are various options of Bus Cards and Tickets at Malta Airport:
- The Winter ticket (in cash on the bus) costs 1,50€
- The Summer ticket (in cash on the bus) costs 2€
- The Night bus Service costs 3€
- Tallinja Card is an option which offers reduced prices and various discounts 
- ExplorePlus Card costs 39€ and covers over 2.000 bus stops very well located within Maltese islands to explore the region. Two trips by ferry to Valletta city centre are also included, and some hop-off buses to visit Malta’s landmarks as well. 
- Explore Card – Unlimited travel: this card costs 21€ per adult and 15€ per child and it’s valid for 7 days. 
- 12 Single Day Journeys: this card costs 15€ and offers 12 single day journeys, it can be shared and it has validation for one year (Night services are also included).
